I own two other food scales, similar to this one. This one is really no different than the others, except the top is glass, which may add some visual appeal to your countertop. It has all the basic functions you'd expect and when compared to my other scales the measurements were nearly identical, so they all must be somewhat accurate. Who is to say which has the absolute correct weight? It's easy to read and takes up very little counter space. It actually takes up a little less space than my other two, so that's a plus. For what it is, it does the job. If you want something fancier with more than basic functions, keep looking.

This is a good basic digital kitchen scale, with everything that most cooks (or dieters) need from a scale, but I don't love the flat glass plate.THE GOOD:+ Small footprint, lightweight unit+ Measures in pounds/ounces or grams+ Tare function allows you to discount the weight of any container you may be using+ Auto off - this is both a pro and a conTHE BAD:- The glass plate is completely flat... things roll or slide off of it! Yes you can put what you're weighing into a container and use the tare feature, but that's an extra step. Also, I foster underage kittens and have to weigh them in ounces... my old scale had a dished weighing plate which held those squirmy kitties well. This does not!- Auto off. A pro and a con because sometimes I want it to stay on as I go back and forth while cooking.BOTTOM LINE: Good basic scale that does what it's supposed to. Kitten-weighers may be frustrated.

I have several brands of kitchen scales that I use daily as I frequently test cookbooks from the UK that require metric conversions. This was my first Taylor scale, and I have to say that as an experienced baker, I was let down by the fact that you are limited to Imperial and grams (no liquid measurements with this scale, so forget about measuring in fl. oz. or ml). The max weight is 11 pounds. There are only two buttons and it is very simple to operate. The glass top is easy to wipe clean and has a hefty feel, but the plastic base is extremely lightweight and feels cheap.The plastic door to access the batteries feels cheaply made. I do like the look of the glass top, and this has a small footprint on the counter. Also, the fact that it takes two AAA batteries (vs. button-cell batteries like my thin-line digital scale) makes it easier to find / replace batteries (my thin digital scale requires unscrewing the battery compartment door to replace the batteries).Verdict: This is fine for those looking for an entry-level scale, particularly for those weighing portions, or for weighing small letters, etc., but more experienced bakers and those who frequently cook using metric will want a scale that offers more versatility.

Compared to the other digital food scale I have, the Taylor 3842 is a bit bigger overall and has a wider, more stable base. But the display is closer to the weight platform which means that it is sometimes obscured by what you are weighing. It doesn't have as precise display (coarser weight resolution), but it is adequate for cooking.

This scale is okay for people who need a scale infrequently. That’s not me. I use a scale in the kitchen several times a day, every day. I’m a serious baker and cook and always weigh ingredients. Measuring by volume is just too inaccurate, messy, time-consuming and illogical.My review is probably unfair to this Taylor scale because I am comparing it to the OXO Good Grips Stainless Steel Food Scale with Pull-Out Display, my workhorse scale. The unfairness of the comparison is that the OXO scale costs twice as much as the Taylor. However, the lack of features of the Taylor make even its lower cost a waste of money for me.The Taylor scale seems accurate. It measures ounces and grams and tares. The deficiencies are that the platform is small and is not removable for cleaning. I routinely remove the stainless steel platform of my OXO scale since it usually gets a dusting of flour after I bake. I can’t imagine how you could thoroughly clean the Taylor scale without getting water into the mechanism, which would ruin it.Another important feature of the OXO scale is the pull out display. This means that you can place large mixing bowls on the platform and pull out the display to be able to read the weight. With the Taylor scale, you are limited to bowls and containers no larger than the round platform, which isn’t very large.The Taylor scale is an adequate scale for occasional use. It just doesn't perform well as a baker’s scale.

Growing up a scale in the kitchen would have been unheard of in my house, but nowadays I know more people that have them then don't. As someone who bakes a lot and also keeps track of my recipes in an app, having accurate measurements is important. The Taylor Digital Food Scale is easy to use, clean and store if you don't want it sitting on the counter. It weighs both in pounds/ounces and kilograms/grams making it easy to get very specific amounts right. Overall this is a good scale at a good price and easily recommended.

This is an attractive, reasonably priced scale. Be aware the base is made of plastic. The scale seems accurate enough for food preparation (I wouldn't dose your drugs with it however ;-). The only complaint I could even muster was that the glass plate isn't detachable--i would love to be able to take it off for cleaning.

This is a great little digital scale -- looks nice on the counter and appears to be accurate when compared with my other scale, the Ogen ZK011. One plus is that it uses AAA batteries instead of the more difficult-to-find button-style batteries like the Ogen does.

So, I'm really diggin' this scale. It's attractive and easy to use. I like the easy to clean glass plate. All in all, I would say that this is a very reasonable food scale. A good option.
